July 9 (SeeNews) - Chinese solar products maker Wuxi Suntech said Thursday it has reached conversion efficiencies as high as 20.82% and 19.11% for its monocrystalline and polycrystalline HyPro solar cells, respectively.
The result was tested by the National Center of Supervision and Inspection on Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Products Quality. The achievement comes only two months after Wuxi Suntech launched its high-efficiency HyPro monocrystalline silicon cells, which had a 20.5% initial conversion efficiency then.
The company uses these cells along with Sunways inverters in its 60-cell and 72-cell HyPro modules, which have 290-W and 330-W outputs, accordingly. In other words, this 20-W average power increase is 7.4% and 6.5% higher than the industry standards, the manufacturer explained in a press release.
Wuxi Suntech was the main unit in China of Suntech Power Holdings before it was acquired by Shunfeng International Clean Energy Ltd (SFCE). “Through the full integration and synergy of SFCE's comprehensive solar technologies spanning the entire solar value chain, the group can increase engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) customers' investment returns by 3%,” it noted.

PV manufacturer Wuxi Suntech, a subsidiary of Shunfeng International Clean Energy (SFCE) has reported verified solar cell efficiency gains for its recently introduced monocrystalline and multicrystalline ‘HyPro’ silicon solar cells.
The company said that its monocrystalline solar cell efficiencies had reached 20.82%, while its multicrystalline cells achieved 19.11% conversion efficiencies. Both cell types had efficiencies verified by the National Center of Supervision and Inspection on Solar Photovoltaic Products Quality (CPVT), in Wuxi, Jiangsu. China.
The efficiency gains come quickly (April 2015) after the company reported its HyPro monocrystalline silicon cells using PERC (Passivated Emitter Rear Cell) technology with four busbar’s had achieved 20.5% efficiencies on average in volume production.
Suntech's HyPro modules are available in 60-cell and 72-cell module configurations with 290W and 330W output power respectively.

Suntech Solar Cell Efficiency Climbs To a New High
Jul 9, 2015 | PR Newswire
Wuxi Suntech, a subsidiary of Shunfeng International Clean Energy, Ltd. (SFCE), has achieved a new round of efficiency breakthroughs for its silicon solar cells. The Hypro modules that use these solar cells, together with Sunways inverters, will contribute significantly to the optimized and integrated EPC solar solutions that SFCE is rolling out around the world. Tested by the National Center of Supervision and Inspection on Solar Photovoltaic Products Quality, the conversion efficiencies of Suntech's monocrystalline and polycrystalline solar cells have reached yields as high as 20.82% and 19.11% respectively, positioning Suntech as a leader in the global photovoltaic industry.
These advances come only two months after Suntech first introduced its high-efficiency HyPro monocrystalline silicon cells, which at the time had a 20.5% efficiency yield. Suntech's HyPro is available in 60 cell and 72 cell modules with 290W and 330W output power respectively, which represent an average of 20W power increase, or 7.4% and 6.5% respectively, above the industry standards, thus marking Suntech's HyPro module as one of the most superior panels in the solar market.
As part of the SFCE group, Suntech and other subsidiaries are in the unique position to achieve even greater output in electricity generation through leveraging technological synergies. The group's EPC solution, led by Suntech's fellow SFCE subsidiary SAG, offers clients a one-stop shop for EPC needs, connecting up-stream PV manufacturing and down-stream solar services and plant development, creating comprehensive and integrated solar solutions. Coupling Suntech's new high-efficiency modules with Sunways's inverters delivers 3% more electricity generation. Moreover, SFCE's EPC solutions deliver additional output yields of over 20% when used alongside Sunways' Smart Linkage Tracker, and an additional 3% from the use of meteocontrol's O&M systems. Through the full integration and synergy of SFCE's comprehensive solar technologies spanning the entire solar value chain, the group can increase EPC customers' investment returns by 3%.
As a subsidiary of SFCE, Suntech makes use of its robust financial backing and resiliency to strengthen product quality and reduce costs all while injecting capital into R&D. Suntech provides world-class anti-PID products that boast high performance yields with enhanced low-light performance, and is devoted to reducing the generation costs of modules. Meanwhile, under its strong management team, Suntech is strengthening relationships in key markets, sourcing valuable partnerships and expanding its project portfolios as a means to enhance its presence and generate more value to its clients.

US reviews 2012 China trade tariffs
Jul 9, 2015 | PV Tech
By John Parnell
The US department of commerce has reviewed its final anti-dumping (AD) and anti-subsidy (AS) rates on Chinese solar firms with most tier-one firms having their rates cut.
The first review of the final tariffs set in December 2012 has ultimately offered mixed results for Chinese manufacturers.
Yingli Green has had its AD rate reduced from 52.13% to 0.79%. Wuxi Suntech has also had its rate cut from 52.13% to 33.08%. A swathe of companies including Canadian Solar, ReneSola, Trina Solar and JinkoSolar have been cut to 9.67% in the AD case from rates between 26.71-78.42% announced in December 2014.
Anti-subsidy rates have increased roughly 5% across the board.
The AD rate for firms not named on the list of companies has decreased, but not substantially, from 249.96% to 238.95%.
SolarWorld Americas, the complainant in both cases, welcomed the results of the review, despite the fact that most tier one rivals have had their rates cut.
“This is another strong victory for US solar manufacturers and workers as Commerce’s trade investigators once again found that China’s improper trade practices violate US trade law,” said Mukesh Dulani, US president of SolarWorld. “When the first solar trade cases were filed in 2011, many in the industry said that the sky was going to fall and US demand would plummet. That clearly did not happen. US demand is at an all-time high, and US manufacturers are rebuilding US production and jobs. SolarWorld and other US manufacturers believe that dumped pricing and subsidisation must continue to be addressed.”
The new case also covers products from Taiwan in an effort to prevent Chinese firms from circumventing duties. By importing modules with Taiwanese cells, and so classified as Taiwanese modules, Chinese firms were able to avoid the 2012 duties. Dulani said the company would add further countries to its complaints if manufacturing was moved to other destinations in order to gain what SolarWorld deemed an unfair advantage.
“We will continue to work with US authorities to closely monitor the US market for additional evidence of illegal or unfair trade practices by China, Taiwan and other countries and, when appropriate, take action,” he added.
