Only it's not a Democrat -- it's a super-PAC supported by Republican New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie calling Kasich "a Washington insider and Wall Street banker."

   This was pretty much inevitable from the moment Ohio Gov. John Kasich declared his intention to run for president: A rival is slamming him for his role with Lehman Brothers.

   Only it's not a Democrat -- it's a super-PAC supported by Republican New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie calling Kasich "a Washington insider and Wall Street banker."

   The ad also claims that while in Congress, Kasich "gave Wall Street a blank check to write millions in bad loans leading to the financial crisis."

   While at Lehman Brothers, "Kasich made millions while taxpayers were forced to bail out Wall Street," the 30-second spot maintains.

   The commerical also uses Donald Trump's slap at Kasich's Lehman Brothers role - albeit overstated - from a early GOP debate last year.

   Democratic Gov. Ted Strickland used much the same line of attack on Kasich in the 2010 race for governor won by Kasich.

   Kasich has long maintained that he was merely one of numerous managing directors with the investment firm whose collapse in September 2008 helped spark the Great Recession. He has oft repeated that if he could have caused the Lehman meltdown from a two-person office in Columbus, he should be named pope, not president. Yet he also has often talked about the big deals he cut while at Lehman Brothers, meeting the founders of Google and other high-tech outfits. And records show he unsuccessfully tried to persuade Ohio's pension funds to invest in Lehman Brothers not long before its collapse.

   During his first trip to New Hampshire after launching his formal candidacy in July, Kasich remarked in response to Democratic criticism,"I learned a lot about the way America works when I worked at Lehman Brothers.”

   Matt David, chief strategist for the super-PAC backing Kasich,  New Day For America, said in a statement:

   "It's shameful and a reflection of how far Governor Christie has fallen that his team has resorted to airing Trump's attacks against Governor Kasich. There is a reason Governor Christie himself has not even leveled this line of attack: it's untrue and straight out of Hillary Clinton's playbook. Chris Christie should either disavow this ad or have the courage to repeat the attack."

   New Day also noted that Christie is a former lobbyist for the Securities Industry Association and has taken campaign contributions from Wall Street firms, defended 2012 GOP nominee Mitt Romney against similar attacks in the 2012 election over his role with Bain Capital.

   But the Kasich super-PAC is far from just playing defense in New Hampshire eight days before the first-in-the-nation primary there -- but for the first time had to pull an ad because Kasich's official campaign objected. Initially, the super-PAC launched a $1 million attack on a 2013 vote by Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida against reauthorizing the Violence Against Women Act.

   The ad includes New Hampshire Republican Sen. Kelly Ayotte advocating reauthorization of the measure, then notes in test, "78, including every female, supported the Violence Against Women Act. Who voted against it? Marco Rubio."...
