WASHINGTON, D.C. — In a recent complaint, a Washington D.C. resident says her use of Johnson & Johnson’s Baby Powder and Shower to Shower has caused her to develop ovarian cancer and that the company ignored various studies evincing the products’ carcinogenic risks.
In a complaint filed in the District of Columbia Superior Court, Denise Simpson also names talc supplier Imerys Talc America Inc. and trade association Personal Care Products Council (PCPC) as defendants, accusing them of perpetuating J&J’s false representations of the products’ safety.

Health and beauty giant Johnson & Johnson has been forced to rethink its babycare products after losing out to rivals selling organic alternatives.
Sales of baby products such as No More Tears shampoo and talcum powder have tumbled 14 per cent in the first quarter of the year to £66million.
Chief financial officer Dominic Caruso said: ‘It looks like millennial moms are trying a lot of organic, natural and what we call premium brands.’
The company has been hit by claims in the US that some of its products contain dangerous chemicals, including talcum that is alleged to have contained ingredients that could cause cancer.
The family of a woman who died from ovarian cancer blamed her illness on the company’s baby powder and received a payout from a court last year. More than 1,000 similar cases are due to be heard.
Johnson & Johnson’s group sales for the first quarter were in line with market expectations and rose 0.6 per cent to £12.2billion.
According to research firm Nielsen, the global organic baby products sector grew 26pc last year.
