J&J SUBSIDIARY SETTLES FALSE CLAIMS CASE, FORMER EXECS CONVICTED — Johnson & Johnson’s medical device subsidiary Acclarent Inc. will pay $18 million to resolve false claims allegations, the justice department announced Friday. The company was accused of marketing its sinus space device for use as a drug delivery device without FDA approval, leading providers to submit false claims to Medicare and other federal payers. http://politico.pro/2amGzjv
… Earlier in the week, former Acclarent CEO William Facteau and former VP of Sales Patrick Fabian were convicted by a jury of 10 misdemeanor counts of introducing adulterated and misbranded devices into interstate commerce. They were acquitted of 14 felony counts of fraud. http://bit.ly/29WrVA6

Johnson & Johnson will pay an $18-million fine to settle a charge that its Acclarent unit distributed an unapproved device to surgeons for use in sinus surgeries, which resulted in the surgeons submitting "false claims" to Medicare, according to the Justice Department.
