1. Dinneen laments policy barriers, praises ethanol industry at FEW

   Bob Dinneen, president and CEO of the Renewable Fuels Association, told attendees of the International Fuel Ethanol Workshop & Expo that the industry needs to work to increase ethanol demand. It’ll be driven by the Renewable Fuel Standard, he said. Dinneen delivered the even’s keynote address June 20 at the Minneapolis Convention Center. He praised the RFS as the nation’s most successful environmental energy policy. “From an environmental standpoint, this program has been an unmitigated success.” Ethanol, he added, is the only fuel with a carbon benefit. Whether the U.S. is in the Paris Agreement or not, this country will see benefits because of the ethanol industry, he said.
2. Bayrock, Cooper receive 2017 FEW awards

   During the opening session of the 2017 International Fuel Ethanol Workshop & Expo, two industry professionals were recognized for their work in the industry, while two at the beginning of their careers were recipients of 2017 FEW Kathy Bryan Memorial Scholarships. Geoff Cooper received the High Octane Award and Dennis Bayrock received the Award of Excellence.

   Kristy Moore, principal for KMoore Consulting, was live via Skype from Mexico during the Exports Update general session panel June 20 at the International Fuel Ethanol Workshop & Expo in Minneapolis. The country announced last week that it would allow 10 percent ethanol blends, which opened the market for U.S. ethanol exports. The general session panel switched its focus to Canada’s market, as Jim Grey, CEO of IGPC Ethanol Inc., talked about policy developments in clean fuel and climate change. “They have recently announced a proposed clean fuel standard. We don’t know what the clean fuel standard is going to look like yet. But that is going to change the landscape. … The world is changing for us quickly in Canada.” Not surprisingly, the domestic demand general session panel centered on RVP. Brian Jennings, executive vice president of the American Coalition for Ethanol, said the current legislative effort is enormous and displays incredible teamwork. The push to convince legislators is crucial. “We’ve really got to run the table to get remaining senators to come to our side on this,” he said.
