Harrisburg has hired a business administrator to take on some of the day-to-day tasks performed largely by Mayor Eric Papenfuse in recent years.

Papenfuse said Marc Woolley, the new administrator, will oversee the city's finance, human resources and internet technology departments. He will also be involved in purchasing, contracts and a number of tasks related to the city's emergence from Act 47 distressed municipality status.

"I was essentially acting as de facto business administrator for the city," Papenfuse said. "Mark will report to me and be able to take some of that administrative work off my plate."

Wooley said his goal is to "make sure we're implementing the mayor's, as well as City Council's, vision for the future of Harrisburg."

Papenfuse said Wooley, who previously worked for the Hershey Trust and the Delaware Port Authority, will be paid a $115,000 salary funded through a three-year state grant it received as a result of its Act 47 status.
