Bloomberg New Energy Finance Names Suntech a Leading PV Module Supplier in 2015

Bloomberg New Energy Finance (BNEF) has added Suntech to its Tier 1 solar company list in its February 2015 PV Market Outlook. BNEF has developed a unique ranking system for grading PV module makers, based on bankability and cooperation with market developers, investors and EPCs. The ranking creates a transparent differentiation between the hundreds of manufacturers of solar modules on the market.

Tier 1 module manufacturers are those which have provided own-brand, own-manufactured products to five different projects, which have been financed, non-recourse, by five different non-development banks, in the past two years. The outlook is based on solar PV developments that occurred over the course of 2014.
Wuxi Suntech had previously lost its tier 1 rating by Bloomberg New Energy Finance during its insolvency. However, following Suntech's acquisition by Shunfeng International Clean Energy in 2014 and the increase in its debt finance availability from commercial banks, BNEF now defines Suntech as a major bankable solar PV module supplier in 2015.
Under Shunfeng, Suntech has the strongest financial footing in the solar industry with nearly zero debt. Wuxi Suntech back in BNEF's list of Tier 1 PV module makers

Chinese solar products maker Wuxi Suntech has regained the Tier 1 solar module manufacturer status in Bloomberg New Energy Finance’s (BNEF) February 2015 PV Market Outlook.
The ranking system evaluates a photovoltaic (PV) module maker’s bankability and cooperation with market developers, investors and engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) companies.
Eric Luo, CEO of Wuxi Suntech’s parent Shunfeng International Clean Energy (HKG:1165), said that his company was confident in Suntech’s product when it acquired it for CNY-3-billion (USD 481m/EUR 424m) in the spring of 2014. “What we didn't know was how quickly it would regain its bankability status,” he added.
BNEF’s 2015 PV Market Outlook is based on solar PV developments in 2014. Wuxi Suntech had lost its Tier 1 rating during its insolvency.

Shunfeng Photovoltaic International Ltd. (Changzhou, China) on February 4th, 2015 announced a preliminary review of the unaudited consolidated results of the Group for the Year 2014 including a significant improvement in its financial performance.
According to the company this is primarily attributable to the significantly increased shipment volume of solar photovoltaic (PV) cells in 2014, the contribution of Wuxi Suntech Power Co., Ltd. after completion of its acquisition, and the contribution of solar power generation business.
Shipment volume of solar cells increased by 79.7%; Wuxi Suntech shipped PV modules totaling 663.7 MW
The Group recorded an increase in shipment volume of solar cells by 79.7% from 480.5 megawatt (MW) for the Year 2013 to 863.4 MW for the Year 2014.
After completion of the acquisition of Wuxi Suntech Power Co., Ltd. the Group recorded an increase in shipment volume of solar PV modules by 2,916.8% from 22 MW for the Year 2013 to 663.7 MW for the Year 2014.
The aggregate volume of solar power generated by PV power plants owned by the Group amounted to approximately 606,690 megawatt-hours for the Year 2014, Shunfeng notes.
