Roller- A-Thon Raises Funds to Get Suki Back on her Feet
Mar 29, 2015 | About My Area
An eager group of heart-adorned skaters, scooter riders and skateboarders, young and old, joined an overwhelmed wheelchair-bound supermum, Suki Mann, on a fund raising roller-a-thon yesterday.
With their donation buckets jangling they rolled, giggled and whizzed along the mile long seaside path from Gilkicker Fort to the bunting clad finish at Stokes bay.
Suki, an ex-swimming instructor, suffered serious nerve damage after what should have been a simple operation to fit a pelvic mesh implant to fix a urinary problem went wrong. The operation left her unable to move her left leg and in constant pain. The once sporty 46-year-old can only walk small distances with crutches, uses a wheelchair for longer distances and now wants the mesh removed.
Although she has had 6cm of the 22cm mesh taken away, she has been told that that it is not possible to remove the rest due to lack of skills in the UK. She is now raising funds to visit a surgeon in California with extensive experience of the procedure.
The roller-a-thon yesterday raised £190 for Suki's appeal. First to reach the finish was Charlie Fisher aged 8, second place went to Sunny Creasey aged 10 and third place to Max Fisher aged 11.
Suki said, "I can't believe the support I have been shown today by my dear friends and family"
If you would like to help Suki back on her feet again please donate tohttp://www.gofundme.com/injured-by-mesh.
